I'm getting ready for an extended trip abroad, which I decided means normal hair.

I haven't been a brunette in forever. It's *so* strange.

Baha. Isn't it? It's much more auburn than it looks in the picture. But still.

        lol
        i just got lazy about
        the constant
        re application of dye
        i now have black
        and copper
        permanent colors
        not as nice as
        freaky colors
        but enjoyable
        and i would
        probably dye my
        hair a nutty
        color to go abroad!
        lol

I got lazy too, or rather decided to give my hair a break. I have dark hair naturally and can only go so long with constant bleaching and dyeing before my hair starts to look brittle. To console myself I tend to alternate between various semi-perm semi-natural colors (copper, auburn, eggplant, very dark brown). It helps a little. I'd feel really weird with natural hair... whatever color that is.

chia, have you found a good conditioner or restructurer to help your hair when it becomes brittle?

I've not found a restorative condition that I really like, but this is partially due to having exceptionally sensitive/allergic skin. I know a lot of people who swear by Terax conditioner (which I'll admit worked very well but gave me hives). If using on colored hair, you would probably want to add some dye to it though.

Most of the really great moisturizing conditioners I've tried have just *leeched* away color from my hair. But maybe there is no getting around that? Right now I've been using cheap Dove conditioner and really loving it.

maybe try pureology. its supposed to be for color treated hair and also it is very concentrated so you dont have to use that much. it shouldnt make your color fade. its soooper smoothe. im bald, but if i had hair id try it.

thanks! I'll have to give it a try. Now that I'm not bleaching and dyeing every few weeks, my hair is a lot healthier, but I'll keep it in mind.. I am itchin for a dye right now.

I feel your pain. I just got my first real haircut in forever, after spending the past few years shaving my own head in my own bathroom and leaving my bangs how I like them. Damn grad school interviews. The stylist was not thrilled with the idea that I'll probably just shave my head again within a few weeks after the interview. I can't help it!

My shaved head is all grown out and gettin' shaggy and in my natural color no less! Does feel weird! I'm gonna milk the norm thing until the weather warms up and I partake in my first mohawk adventure!

I dunno if I can maintain the brown/auburn thing. It's so dang *bland*. Plus my hair is fried, so it's not at all shiny.

Maybe I can do a deep burgundy over it that'd fade before I take off traveling. Or perhaps I should just accept the extra hassles at border crossings and keep a non-natural color after all.

Anybody have any experience in Asia and/or Europe with bright hair?

(SBI, I can't wait to see you in a mohawk!)

depending on what you are doing I wouldn't worry to much about having unusual hair colour in Europe and most parts of Asia. In asia what really freaks people out in SEA are girls with short hair. People with stare anyways so why worry about the hair. Also in Asia try some henna colouring. My pseudo mom and I use to get our hair henna every six weeks and it can be very very bright with the real henna they use there. When my friend went to China and Japan with her pink hair everyone loved her and she actually got treated better since they all thought she was so kawaii (cute).

If you are doing business that is an other deal of course. I had no problem with my henna hair even if it was bright especially since when I worked my hair was back in a bun respectfully but I don't know how well pink hair would fly in some part if indonesia or malaysia.
