Hair Dye Running

Hi, I'm new. I'm Alicia.
Anyway, I'm thinking about dyeing half of my hair blue (not a stark line down the center of my head, just interspersed throughout my hair). I do plan on bleaching and all that jazz, but I just want to know something.
From what I've read, Special Effects is one of the best hair dyes out there, but I've also read that it runs like an Olympian. In the shower, in the rain, on your pillow. So how much experience have those of you who use SFX had with running? How long does it take to stop? Will it really get on the wall if you put your head there?
And since this will be my first time dyeing my own hair (I've had it done professionally but I can't afford that again), does anyone have any tips?

  • ANY of the semipermanents are going to run when wet. Thats what they do. they fade when they get washed/wet. I've never had a problem with mine when it was dry but i haven't gone vigorously rubbed my head on any white walls either haha. that said, just stom casual leaning, i have never noticed my hair leaving a mark on anything. i use dark towels when i shower and a dark pillowcase (cause it DOES rub off on my pillowcase at night)

the longer its in, the less it does because there is less in your hair to come off. and yeah, i think special effects is best. or raw. i like em both almost equally i think.

if the rest of your hair isnt dark. wrap each blue piece in foil after applying the dye so that it doesnt get on the rest of your hair. i always leave it in for WAY longer than it tells you too. the longer the better it seems. i've even done overnight (with a shower cap on my head)
    • If it runs when wet, does snow make it run? Because I live in Colorado, so that would be an issue...
      • it only runs when its DRIPPING wet. like... not from a little rain, but from jumping in the lake or a shower.... so i would THINK you would be fine?
        • a little running with special effects but after bleaching i leave the dye in over an hour and blow dry the wet dye before washing it out go light on the shampoo and use a leave in conditioner...i wash once a week keeps nicely for about 3 months before i start thinking about another color...
