purple hair - eyebrows?

topic posted Thu, March 31, 2005 - 9:20 AM by  Severina
i'm natually a blonde, so my brows are pretty light. Since my hair's been red, I've been darkening them in with a red tinted brow pencil.

Well - I'm going purple soon, any recommendations on how to shade my brows? do i stick with the red or switch over to a more neutral brown shade?

Also - does anyone have any vibrant purple haircolor recommendations? i'm leaning toward special effects wildflower or pimpin' purple. I'm going to a pro to do it, but it's likely not all the red will come out first.

Thanks

purple passion, raw color. so good. deep and rich, but bright and lively at the same time. it's my very favorite purple. also, don't have a pro do it. at least, one that's not me. i've been doing this for 12 years, lady! give me a call, we'll set up a time. and i assure you i can get the red out.

ahem. 23 years in the biz, over here. :)

i second raw, and also special effects. both seem to last the longest, in my experience. i don't have much experience with manic panic, because i went straight from fudge (don't bother!) to raw and special effects. better colors that hold longer.

hey, skye-how's it been for you trying to remove raw or special effects?

also, i'd go with the advice to keep the brows a couple shades darker. also, what's the reason for making the brows the same color? surely you're not trying to convince anyone it's your natural color ;-)

If you are afraid you will not be able to strip out the red dye, then stick to a reddish purple. Most purples have blue undertones, which turn out really murky on hair that still has reddish tones.

I've always liked Punky's Plum. It's very similar to Special Effects Pimpin' Purple, but Punky dyes seem to last a lot longer for me.

For the eyebrows, maybe a light brown brow pencil? Though if I had blonde eyebrows, I'd be tempted to brush in glitters or eyeshadow, rather than trying to make them brown.

K, how about dark brows, with lighter hair color? I have used facial bleach, but it grows out quickly, and looks foul. It's been years since I've done this, last time I went ahead a rebleached too soon and they turned all gummy and broke off. I have been scared to do it ever since. fortunately, although people told me they wouldn't grow back right, they did. lucky.... because I looked like a frigging alien (not a cute one) wih no brows..

I've never bothered, it seems very high maintenance (not to mention I'd likely blind myself with bleach). Plus, you can usually tell when someone's bleached their own eyebrows, as they go too light (should be a couple of shades darker than the hair color).

I pluck my brows somewhat thin, and then use a soft, lighter brown eye pencil. The overall effect is lighter brown brows. When I do pink or red toned dyes, I use a reddish brown one. There is also eyebrow "powder" which works *really* well at giving a different appearance. It's different than eyeshadow or facial powder in that it comes out in little strand-like pieces which sort of stick between your eyebrows (the way I'm explaining it sounds gross, but it works really well). I found some at Sephora -- they've been really good at helping with the "dyed my hair, need new eyebrows" thing.

FWIW, if I do a really unnatural color like purple or blue, I don't even bother with brow color, but instead make sure to do a little something glittery or theatrical with eye makeup. Otherwise I feel like I have crazy hair on top of blah face.

you all are so helpful :-) My hairdresser discovered a new color remover that she says is great. I was thinking it's likely to end up a more red-ish purple - but I guess we'll see. I do all the maintainance myself, but go to her for the bleaching and serious changes - she rocks!

i don't think i will dye my brows - they're already fairly light and i darken them in. I've gotten them tinted before, but it's too damn $$ and doesn't seem to last very long.

My beau swears by punky colors too - maybe I should give them a try. I haven't tried Raw yet.

kind of an old thread, but i wanted to chime in with a cheap solution to the old blond eyebrow problem: colored mascara! temporary, easy, not dangerous, cheap. or colored eyeliner pencils, if you prefer to draw them on.

i'm a hairstylist and also a haircolor adventurer so heres what i would recommend. dont dye your eyebrows... its a bitch to get color out of them, especially a manic panic type problem. pick up a purple eyeliner and use that for your brows. as far as color goes, i'm a manic panic devotee. just curious, when you go to your stylist, do you bring your color (manic panic or whatever) or do they mix a color for you? by the way, as far as reds go, they are the first to fade and the hardest to remove so if you do the purple over existing red, you may have red undertones that will probably look awesome.

i love purple. another suggestion for the brows is with a purple liner pencil get a purple eyeshadow with no shimmer and lightly brush it in,.. it'll help make a nice purple line perhaps. =)

the best thing ive found for purple is RAW its a vegan hair dye sold usually at hot topic. If you leave it on about twice as long (30 minutes total) and apply a little heat you get in your facely vibrant color for a few months, unless you straiten your hair, then you get it for about 6 weeks. the stuff bascailly works as a stain. it goes over any hair color but the lighter the underneath color is the brigter the purple will be.

on the eyebrows- just leave them the way they are! purple/ artifically red eyebrows is a big mistake, atleast with purple hair. anyhow, good luck with making your decision!

I agree.... my original post is over a year old and I've tried bunches of purples. Raw wins hands down! It lasts forever! I haven't tried using heat with it, but maybe it will last even longer with it...

i've just been darkening my brows with a little lighter brown shade.
    • ... could you elabourate a bit further on this one .. RAW .. and "sold at hot topic?" ... i have been using a semi permanent :: amethyst for at least a couple
of years made by WELLA COLOR CHARM ... it's a bit tricky to find it ... you'll need to go to a beauty supply store ... such as "the beauty store' ... or other
"specialty outlets" ... it is vibrant ... lasts forever ... at least til your hairline begins to grow out ... and i often top it off with something like manic panic to bring out even brighter highlights... but would be interested in "trying out" the RAW ... especially if .. as one stated ... it last for 6 mos.... that's quite a claim...
"hot topic" is not a retail store i am familiar with (in the SF BAY AREA) .. perhaps i can do a google search for it .. and if any one is "local" and could point me in the right direction...that would be awesome ..
... see my posting re::: trip to LA this weekand under brows and more.... the more the merrier...

... as to eyebrows... i am a "natural blonde" with a long tyme love affair with all that is purple, lavender, azure blue, burgundy, ad infinitum....
... i have my eyebrows tatooed once a year ... by a VERY GOOD asthetician ... who i have used for years..... no hassles with dyes, no hassles
with pencils.... no running of colours ... and perfect brows with amaezing colour selections and this sister is an artiste' .... would nevre just saunter into
one of those ASIAN beauty salons? where the standard colours are blue=black ... and horrific ... plus she gets the shape perfect ... and for those of
you who would like to do without lip liner she does this as well ... and the effect is very natural .... have nevre had anything but compliments on
    the "work" she has done....
Sooooo.... if any of you hair diva's are up for a trip to LA on August 5th.... i'll be renting a SUV with lotza space and a sound system to boost ... and
the more that we can caravan with to Amae's the larger the discount we will get.... plus will learn, get to work on each other and leave with a beautiul
talent to list to are many talents already ~ * ~ and a fresh new "do" ... so let me know if you or any of your extended friendz/family are interested...
