ive had parts of my hair purple for about a year now, the first time i put it in it stayed for probably near 6 months in the places that i dont use a curling iron on, each time i have re-dyed it, it seems to last less and less time, but i also moved in the span of the time and have much harder water where i am now, so it might be all due to that/ other things. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and/ or if there is a cure for it? i really love my purple, i dont want it to go away!

Re: becoming resistant to purple?
Thu, August 3, 2006 - 9:51 AMI've had issues with certain areas of my hair just not taking color either. I had one small bleached spot that I dyed 3 times to no avail :-(
Generally if you start building up color like you have been it lasts longer. It could have something to do with your hard water.
Although - I don't know of any vegetable dye based colors (all the stuff like manic panic, special effectfs, punky, raw) that would stay for 6 months. I generally re-dye every 4 weeks, maybe 6 but it's super faded by that point.
What brand color are you using? Maybe it's time to switch brands to see if it helps. Raw's purple passion lasted for me much longer than anything else I've tried. I also swear by making a color conditioner that's 40% of your color and 60% conditioner - use it once a week and leave it on for at least 5 minutes. It will help keep the color vibrant. But - if you're only doing small streaks and your hair is light you likely will end up streaking your non-dyed hair with the conditioner. -

Re: becoming resistant to purple?
Mon, August 14, 2006 - 7:30 PMI use purelogy's hydrate shampoo and conditioner. your wallet likely will scream, but your hair and color will be happy.
I also really like Redken All-Soft line's Heavy Cream as a once a week deep conditioner - it really moisturizes, but doesn't leave my hair greasy or weighed down.
