HELP! trying to get to purple - part 2

well - so per my previous post I went to my hairdresser on Friday. After color remover and bleach - the red came out, so my hair was ready for purple. She'd heard good reports on some new pigment colors and bought red and blue to make a custom shade of purple.

Well I ended up with a more Sangria-like shade :-( It soaked up the red - even though the dye was a vibrant blueish purple. The roots ended up almost fushia! She then did the roots Special Effects Blue Haired Freak and they're more purply. After a small fortune and 6 hours at the salon I still don't have my hair the vibrant purple I wanted.

Last night I used 50 / 50 special effects Wildflower & conditioner mix and left it on for about 10 minutes - it didn't help much. We're headed to Convergence on Thursday and I really want fab purple for it.

Any suggestions on what i can do to make it less purply-pink and more true purple? am i better off blue-ing over the whole thing or purpleing it?

You should be ok to use a purple color (Special Effects-Pimpin Purple, one of my fav shades) over the top of what you have now. It might turn out a little darker than if you didn't have the sangria shade underneath, but it should still be purple.

I always do my own color. I just can't see spending what they charge for color in a salon when I can go to the beauty supply store and spend 20 bucks for what I need. It's fun to color hair with friends, too! Actually, that was my reason behind starting this tribe, hoping that people would start getting together for hair nights and such.

what she said. you'll be fine just coloring over it. if you want it bluer, use blue-haired freak over the whole thing. it'll even out the magenta and give you a true purple. using the purple over the top will give you more of a deep violet.

p.s., i told you so. next time, less salon, more skye.
      =^_^=

just ask charles; his hair has had the benefit of me. =Þ

I just dyed my mohawk a lovely shade of fuschia (Manic Panic Pillar Box Red).

Can I put in an early request for a hair night in SF or Oakland in mid-October when I get back into the country? I'm so tired of my "travel hair" (basic auburn with some blonde stripes) and *really* want bright hair again. Will be broke-ish after travel, but I still have a box o' bleach, gloves, and colors to share...
